Mamma mia brakes UK DVD records

The famous musical film, Mamma Mia! has broken on of the biggest records of all time in the UK. The film has become has become the UK's biggest selling DVD of all time according to official figures. It is the first disc to sell more than five million copies - placing it in one in four UK households which is just incredible to comprehend! The film was the number one DVD of 2008 with its closest rival ‘The Dark Knight’ making 1.5 million sales in total.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is the closest rival for all time DVD sales as it has sold a total of million copies in total. It is followed by third and fourth by Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Other top ten all time sellers include, 'Casino Royale' staring Daniel Craig and Shrek 2 with Mike Myers which was the fastest selling animation during the last decade.

The latest landmark further underlines the immense popularity of Mamma Mia which is now the UK's official favorite film of all time. Yet it is not just the film which has done well, the soundtrack to the film also became the biggest selling compilation of 2008 as they shifted over one million copies in total. The film became the fastest selling DVD when it was released in the middle of November, 2008 and has continued to sell over the festive period like hot pancakes! I myself had bought a copy for my mother and it appears as though everyone in the United Kingdom had the same idea! I have not seen the film myself yet I have heard it is something not just for women but for everyone to enjoy which is good. Personally, I can't imagine Pierce Brosnan dancing around with in a dress with old women instead of being James Bond but that is neither here nor there. This movie is something nice for the whole family to enjoy and I would recommend it to everyone!

Black Snake Moan Movie Review

A 2007 release, Black Snake Moan is a film the recreates the atmosphere of the Mississippi Blues Movement starting from an older novel and former song. The film reception was not at all fabulous among critics as some reproached it to have a messy plot, while others had overt critical attitudes over the sexualized violence that characterizes the film. Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Chrisitna Ricci and Justin Timberlake, Black Snake Moan reveals lots of African American issues, exposes drug abuse, bitterness and sexual addiction cases. At the origin of the film lies a novel by George Eliot written in 1861, Silas Marner, while the soundtrack is some form of remake of the Blind Lemon Jefferson song popular in the late 20s.  auto insurance online quote

The actors performing in Black Snake Moan devoted such a great attention to this project that significant parts of their lives suffered changes according to the requests of the script: thus, Samuel L. Jackson had to study around six hours a day, for half a year to only learn to play blues guitar. Then, Christina Ricci also set an example of role commitment by having only food poor in nutrients and avoiding getting fully dressed just to get into the character’s skin better. A hot debate issued due to the misogynistic marketing of the film, which was labeled as pretty offensive to women.  auto insurance quote

All in all, when it comes to the reception of Black Snake Moan, the film was not by far the hit everyone expected. Yet, good critical appreciations were also formulated, but less intense than the aggression of the negative criticism. The main problem identified in the promotional campaign for the film advertising  was that it emphasized promiscuity and it tried to attract the attention of college boys audience instead of addressing wider public categories. Hence, Christina Ricci was one of the film actors who took a stand against this form of advertising, claiming it unpardonable and without precedent in her film career.

A better outcome resulted from the release of the Black Snake Moan soundtrack collection at the beginning of 2007. The songs feature several artists, with three tracks being performed by Samuel L. Jackson himself. The album includes a total of seventeen tracks covering both classic and modern blues; the compilation sold pretty well, as Blues fans were actually eager to get a new approach to their favorite music style. Critics also had a very positive attitude much better than the other critical appreciations passed on the film, Black Snake Moan.  car insurance quote

Enhancing Home Theater’s Surround System with Home Theater Speaker Wire

After the First World War, films “introduced the whole of America to the world of night clubs, country clubs, speakeasies and the moral frivolity which went with them.” Foreign films all but disappeared from American screens, while American films made up from 60 to 90 percent of the programs elsewhere in the world. Cinema was used as a means to glorify the American way of life and American products. At the same time, the newly created “star system” turned the likes of Rudolph Valentino, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks into virtual divinities.

A New World OF Filming During the Second World War

During the depression of the ’30’s, cinema served as the “opiate of the masses.” But as the world edged toward war, the mission of cinema became one of manipulation and propaganda. Mussolini called cinema “l’arma più forte,” or “the strongest weapon,” while under Hitler, it became the spokesman of national socialism, primarily to indoctrinate the young. Films such as Der Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will) and Olympia effectively deified the Nazi leaders. Jud Süss (Jew Süss), on the other hand, promoted anti-Semitism. And in Britain, Laurence Olivier’s Henry V served as a morale booster in preparation for D day and the casualties that would ensue.

Obviously, as noted from the details mentioned above, television and cinematography have opened the world into a whole new experience of understanding life through movie presentations. Today, people enjoy the said entertainment to recreate and to be informed as well. However, the experience of viewing only becomes extraordinary when the existence of realistic sounds occurs.

The Demand of Better Sound System: Answered through the Use of Home Theater Speaker Wire

It could be observed through time that the existence of sound surround system for home theaters have attracted the interest of many home theater owners through the years. However to enjoy this convenience, it is important to consider installing home theater speaker wires within the system for better surround sound experience. With the use of home theater speaker wires, the connection of speakers would work more efficiently. Yes, home theater speaker wires are existent to assist in the process of increasing sound convenience for home theater speakers and to allow home theater ceiling speakers to work efficiently for the viewers.

With these lines available, home theater viewing would surely become an unforgettable experience for your and the ones you love at the convenience of your own homes.

‘Dark Knight’ receives best 2008 movie award

Today it was announced that the latest Batman film, 'Dark Knight' is to be added to the best films category of 2008. It is also up for an oscar nomination for best visual effects film of 2008. The film has broken so many box office records that people have lost count. The 'Dark Knight' hosts a vast array of Hollywood stars including, Cristian Bale, Micheal Cain, Gary Oldman and most of course the late Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger himself is up for a posthumous Golden Globe this week for his hypnotic performance as the Joker in the Dark Knight as I think it is duly justified as his acting was truly mesmerizing.

The latest Batman film is by far my favorite so far and the Director Chis Nolan has done an extremely fantastic job in putting this masterpiece of a film together. Everything was perfect and the film was well taken by the audience. I think I speak for everyone when I say that the general public are eager to see when the next installment of Chris Nolan's Batman will come out.

The award for best film in 2008 will finally be decided in early 2009 at a high class luncheon in Los Angeles however the nominations list has already been compromised with the 'Dark Knight', 'Wall-E' and 'Quantum of Solace'. The winner of the nominations will obviously be crowned the best movie of 2008. Additionally, the nominations for the oscars will be announced soon with the final winners being declared in February 2008. 'Dark Knight' has already qualified for one of these awards and I have no doubt in my mind that the film will surely qualify for some more as it truly is one the best films of our generation and Heath Ledger's performance deserves all the praise that it gets.

New Batman film is praised as one of the best films in 2008

The new Batman film, ‘The Dark Knight’ has been named as one of the best movies of 2008 by none other than the American Film Institute. Other films that were nominated for best film of 2008 were, ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ and Disney’s, ‘Wall-E’ which was computer animated. Many other films were included in the top running including, Iron Man, and drama hit, Frozen River, however the top ten choices will be honoured at an ellaborate luncheon on January 9th at an unnamed event in America.
Additionally, The 'Dark Knight' has been named as one of the 15 semi-finalists for best visual effects Oscar which is an incredible achievement for the relatively un-heard of Director, Chris Nolan. Other nominations include the second instalment of the Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian and the latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. Last week the late Heath Ledger was nominated for a posthumous Golden Globe award for his role as the infamous Joker in the Dark Knight. The role he played was absolutely mesmerizing and there has been nothing but constant appraise for his performance.
I think it is duly justified that this film be awarded for an Oscar as the whole cast performance was simply astounding and deserve every award out there. Each actor’s performance was incredible and it is now one my favourite films of all time. It was almost completely different to any other Batman film I have seen before and it was taken well by the audience. The casting and the commitment by the Director, Chris Nolan was incredible and it made the film what it is. There is no doubt in my mind that the performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker will surely live on in our memories for years to come and although it is truly sad that he has passed away we will always remember his as one of the best actors of our time.
I don’t think this will be the last that we have heard of the Dark Knight movie. I am sure that this film will win countless other awards and accolades. I am eager to see whether it will last till February for the Oscar nominations as it truly deserves it.

The end of the infamous X-factor?

Hit UK show, the X-Factor which is the sister show to US hit, American Idol, is to take a harsh u-turn next year as the lead presenter for the television program, Simon Cowell has confessed he might leave. Can you imagine the X-Factor show without, Simon Cowell? All the snide comments, the cheeky winking, the strange haircut! It just wouldn’t be the same without him which is why the show’s producers are more than eager to arrange another deal with Simon Cowell as soon as possible. Simon has repeatedly been talking about his departure from the show stating that he only has one year left on his contract and he will assess it closer to the time. In all honesty, I think it is time for a shake up in the x-factor but it wouldn’t be the same without Simon. The UK judge also works on neighbouring American shows such as, American Idol and Britain’s Got Talent. The circuit is simply exhausting claims Simon, ‘something has to give as my schedule for the year is simply too much’. This year’s show has been one of the best as it attracted the biggest names in pop such as, Beyonce, Britney Spears and BoyZone to appear live on stage with the contestants. Ratings wise it has been the most incredible turn out with over six million people tuning in to watch the final at the weekend just gone. There have also been numerous rumours considering the future of Danni Minogue as she has literally been out classed by fellow judge, Cheryl Cole from UK band, Girls Aloud.
If Simon Cowell did quit the show, who on earth would take his place? I can’t imagine anyone on TV at the moment which would be able to fill Simon Cowell’s shoes as the angry, witty, slightly charming judge that everyone loves and hates at the same time.

Christmas Movies: This Year’s Top 10

Christmas has never been better celebrated by sitting in front of the fireplace, having some of your favorite egg nog and watching your favorite Xmas Movies. Here’s a list of the Top 10 Christmas movies of 2008:

10 – A Christmas Carol (1999) starring Patrick Stewart
Ok, it was sort of a toss-up for me between this version and the Muppets. There have been tons of versions of this story, we know it, we love it, and you’ve got to love the Muppets. For really telling a great story, though, there’s nothing like great actors – and this movie has them in abundance. The main thing about this film is, it gives a lot of backstory to Ebenezer Scrooge. A lot of other versions come off as a very stiff morality tale, this one actually lets you get in touch with the characters.

9 – Elf (2003) starring Will Ferrell
Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, a human raised by elves at Santa’s workshop. Santa allows the now-grown Buddy to go to New York to find his birth father and hilarity ensues. The awkward but enthusiastic Buddy is a fish out of water as an elf experiencing human culture for the first time.

8 – The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Animated
I am a big Tim Burton fan, and any film that can be watched for two holidays gets a thumbs up from me. I pull this one out at Halloween and we play it till New Year’s. The songs are great, the quirky characters are lovable in their own twisted ways, and I can’t think of any other film that has Santa Claus being questioned by a giant gambling ghost. Gets me in the Christmas spirit – pun intended.

7 – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
Number seven is truly a classic Christmas comedy. The Griswold family struggles to have an old-fashioned Christmas. With crazy Christmas lights, Cousin Eddie, and squirrels hiding in trees, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation will keep you laughing all night long.

6 – Bad Santa (2003) starring Billy Bob Thornton
Do I really want to admit I like this film? Thornton’s character has a dubious plan to rob a department store by dressing like Santa. He then proceeds on a crazy spree including getting drunk, beating up little kids, and cursing throughout. It may not sound like it, but there is a goodwill message hidden somewhere within. Yeah, this is not a family film – but it is pretty funny.

5 – Scrooged (1988)
Back when Bill Murray was still funny (meaning pre- “Lost in Translation”) he made this gem of a film. I especially love Carol Kane’s performance as the ghost of Christmas Present, and yes, it’s still kind of fun to laugh at what we thought was stylish in the 80s. The story is, of course, Dicken’s Christmas Carol – but with many more wisecracks.

4 – The Santa Clause (1994) starring Tim Allen
You don’t want to be Santa? Tough, you knocked him off your roof, it’s your job now. Tim Allen’s elastic face gets a lot of hysterical expressions throughout this movie. I love his attempts to dodge the Santa look, and personally find the visual of Santa on the treadmill hilarious every time.

3 – Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
A kind, bearded old man is put on trial for calling himself Kris Kringle and believing that he is the real Santa. A holiday blockbuster that appeals to the believer in all of us.

2 – It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
Life is falling apart for George Bailey and he begins to contemplate suicide, when his guardian angel appears to show how life would have been if he never existed. A timeless Jimmy Stewart classic that shows anything is possible with the love of friends and family.

…and that brings us to the number one Christmas movie in 2008…

1 – A Christmas Story (1983) starring Peter Billingsley
All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. He perseveres, despite the admonitions of all the adults around him who say, “You’ll shoot your eye out with one of those, kid”. A story told from a kid’s point of view to which young and old can relate.

So, sit down, grab your favorite holiday treat, and settle in for a long winter’s night. I hope these films bring a little joy to you and yours this year – Merry Christmas!

Pitt falls for Angelina whilst he was still married

It was reported yesterday that Brad Pitt fell for now wife, Angelina Jolie whilst he was married to Jennifer Aniston. The fight club star told, Rolling Stones magazine earlier this month that whilst making the film, Mr & Mrs Smith he fell in love – seven months before the end of his marriage. Brad’s comments came two months after Angelina herself started to develop feelings towards Brad Pitt whilst making the blockbuster film. She later opened up to the New York times saying that it is not often to see two people fall on love on set, referring to her own children watching the film.
The Hollywood stars had always insisted that their relationship started after Brad’s marriage had ended but now it is coming to light that that is not the case. Angelina once said that, “To be intimate with a married man, when my own father cheated on my mother, is not something I could forgive”. Well, it looks like that has all changed as she has now professed her love for Brad Pitt whilst they wer both filming, Mr & Mrs Smith. Angelina Jolie has since given birth to three lovely children with Brad Pitt, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
Meanwhile, Jennifer has poked fun at the extreme level of gossip surrounding  Angleina, Brad and herself. She recently posed nude for a front cover picture on the infamous GQ magazine where she seemed to point out that she was over the heart break with brad Pitt.  The break-up star who has had flings with various Hollywood actors is now dating singer, John Mayer, who is the singer in his own band from New York. She is reported to be very happy in her relationship and jokes about the whole ordeal. Yet Jennifer Anniston revealed that her and Brad Pitt rarely communicate anymore except for special occasions like birthdays and stuff like that.
