New Batman film is praised as one of the best films in 2008

The new Batman film, ‘The Dark Knight’ has been named as one of the best movies of 2008 by none other than the American Film Institute. Other films that were nominated for best film of 2008 were, ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ and Disney’s, ‘Wall-E’ which was computer animated. Many other films were included in the top running including, Iron Man, and drama hit, Frozen River, however the top ten choices will be honoured at an ellaborate luncheon on January 9th at an unnamed event in America.
Additionally, The 'Dark Knight' has been named as one of the 15 semi-finalists for best visual effects Oscar which is an incredible achievement for the relatively un-heard of Director, Chris Nolan. Other nominations include the second instalment of the Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian and the latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. Last week the late Heath Ledger was nominated for a posthumous Golden Globe award for his role as the infamous Joker in the Dark Knight. The role he played was absolutely mesmerizing and there has been nothing but constant appraise for his performance.
I think it is duly justified that this film be awarded for an Oscar as the whole cast performance was simply astounding and deserve every award out there. Each actor’s performance was incredible and it is now one my favourite films of all time. It was almost completely different to any other Batman film I have seen before and it was taken well by the audience. The casting and the commitment by the Director, Chris Nolan was incredible and it made the film what it is. There is no doubt in my mind that the performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker will surely live on in our memories for years to come and although it is truly sad that he has passed away we will always remember his as one of the best actors of our time.
I don’t think this will be the last that we have heard of the Dark Knight movie. I am sure that this film will win countless other awards and accolades. I am eager to see whether it will last till February for the Oscar nominations as it truly deserves it.

The end of the infamous X-factor?

Hit UK show, the X-Factor which is the sister show to US hit, American Idol, is to take a harsh u-turn next year as the lead presenter for the television program, Simon Cowell has confessed he might leave. Can you imagine the X-Factor show without, Simon Cowell? All the snide comments, the cheeky winking, the strange haircut! It just wouldn’t be the same without him which is why the show’s producers are more than eager to arrange another deal with Simon Cowell as soon as possible. Simon has repeatedly been talking about his departure from the show stating that he only has one year left on his contract and he will assess it closer to the time. In all honesty, I think it is time for a shake up in the x-factor but it wouldn’t be the same without Simon. The UK judge also works on neighbouring American shows such as, American Idol and Britain’s Got Talent. The circuit is simply exhausting claims Simon, ‘something has to give as my schedule for the year is simply too much’. This year’s show has been one of the best as it attracted the biggest names in pop such as, Beyonce, Britney Spears and BoyZone to appear live on stage with the contestants. Ratings wise it has been the most incredible turn out with over six million people tuning in to watch the final at the weekend just gone. There have also been numerous rumours considering the future of Danni Minogue as she has literally been out classed by fellow judge, Cheryl Cole from UK band, Girls Aloud.
If Simon Cowell did quit the show, who on earth would take his place? I can’t imagine anyone on TV at the moment which would be able to fill Simon Cowell’s shoes as the angry, witty, slightly charming judge that everyone loves and hates at the same time.

Christmas Movies: This Year’s Top 10

Christmas has never been better celebrated by sitting in front of the fireplace, having some of your favorite egg nog and watching your favorite Xmas Movies. Here’s a list of the Top 10 Christmas movies of 2008:

10 – A Christmas Carol (1999) starring Patrick Stewart
Ok, it was sort of a toss-up for me between this version and the Muppets. There have been tons of versions of this story, we know it, we love it, and you’ve got to love the Muppets. For really telling a great story, though, there’s nothing like great actors – and this movie has them in abundance. The main thing about this film is, it gives a lot of backstory to Ebenezer Scrooge. A lot of other versions come off as a very stiff morality tale, this one actually lets you get in touch with the characters.

9 – Elf (2003) starring Will Ferrell
Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, a human raised by elves at Santa’s workshop. Santa allows the now-grown Buddy to go to New York to find his birth father and hilarity ensues. The awkward but enthusiastic Buddy is a fish out of water as an elf experiencing human culture for the first time.

8 – The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Animated
I am a big Tim Burton fan, and any film that can be watched for two holidays gets a thumbs up from me. I pull this one out at Halloween and we play it till New Year’s. The songs are great, the quirky characters are lovable in their own twisted ways, and I can’t think of any other film that has Santa Claus being questioned by a giant gambling ghost. Gets me in the Christmas spirit – pun intended.

7 – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
Number seven is truly a classic Christmas comedy. The Griswold family struggles to have an old-fashioned Christmas. With crazy Christmas lights, Cousin Eddie, and squirrels hiding in trees, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation will keep you laughing all night long.

6 – Bad Santa (2003) starring Billy Bob Thornton
Do I really want to admit I like this film? Thornton’s character has a dubious plan to rob a department store by dressing like Santa. He then proceeds on a crazy spree including getting drunk, beating up little kids, and cursing throughout. It may not sound like it, but there is a goodwill message hidden somewhere within. Yeah, this is not a family film – but it is pretty funny.

5 – Scrooged (1988)
Back when Bill Murray was still funny (meaning pre- “Lost in Translation”) he made this gem of a film. I especially love Carol Kane’s performance as the ghost of Christmas Present, and yes, it’s still kind of fun to laugh at what we thought was stylish in the 80s. The story is, of course, Dicken’s Christmas Carol – but with many more wisecracks.

4 – The Santa Clause (1994) starring Tim Allen
You don’t want to be Santa? Tough, you knocked him off your roof, it’s your job now. Tim Allen’s elastic face gets a lot of hysterical expressions throughout this movie. I love his attempts to dodge the Santa look, and personally find the visual of Santa on the treadmill hilarious every time.

3 – Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
A kind, bearded old man is put on trial for calling himself Kris Kringle and believing that he is the real Santa. A holiday blockbuster that appeals to the believer in all of us.

2 – It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
Life is falling apart for George Bailey and he begins to contemplate suicide, when his guardian angel appears to show how life would have been if he never existed. A timeless Jimmy Stewart classic that shows anything is possible with the love of friends and family.

…and that brings us to the number one Christmas movie in 2008…

1 – A Christmas Story (1983) starring Peter Billingsley
All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. He perseveres, despite the admonitions of all the adults around him who say, “You’ll shoot your eye out with one of those, kid”. A story told from a kid’s point of view to which young and old can relate.

So, sit down, grab your favorite holiday treat, and settle in for a long winter’s night. I hope these films bring a little joy to you and yours this year – Merry Christmas!

Pitt falls for Angelina whilst he was still married

It was reported yesterday that Brad Pitt fell for now wife, Angelina Jolie whilst he was married to Jennifer Aniston. The fight club star told, Rolling Stones magazine earlier this month that whilst making the film, Mr & Mrs Smith he fell in love – seven months before the end of his marriage. Brad’s comments came two months after Angelina herself started to develop feelings towards Brad Pitt whilst making the blockbuster film. She later opened up to the New York times saying that it is not often to see two people fall on love on set, referring to her own children watching the film.
The Hollywood stars had always insisted that their relationship started after Brad’s marriage had ended but now it is coming to light that that is not the case. Angelina once said that, “To be intimate with a married man, when my own father cheated on my mother, is not something I could forgive”. Well, it looks like that has all changed as she has now professed her love for Brad Pitt whilst they wer both filming, Mr & Mrs Smith. Angelina Jolie has since given birth to three lovely children with Brad Pitt, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
Meanwhile, Jennifer has poked fun at the extreme level of gossip surrounding  Angleina, Brad and herself. She recently posed nude for a front cover picture on the infamous GQ magazine where she seemed to point out that she was over the heart break with brad Pitt.  The break-up star who has had flings with various Hollywood actors is now dating singer, John Mayer, who is the singer in his own band from New York. She is reported to be very happy in her relationship and jokes about the whole ordeal. Yet Jennifer Anniston revealed that her and Brad Pitt rarely communicate anymore except for special occasions like birthdays and stuff like that.

Robbie Williams may appear on x-factor

Simon Cowell is rumoured to be making big plans to try and get Robbie Williams to be a judge on next year’s x-factor. It has been claimed that the current presenter on the show, Dannii Minogue may be booted off the show after a furious back stage brawl with fellow judge, Louis Walsh. Danni Minogue admitted earlier this week that she felt distressed when Louis Walsh accused her of stealing his song choice for his band, JLS for her contestant Rachel Hylton. None of these acts actually won the competition in the end but the argument has fuelled hatred that is still going strong between the two judges. Dannii Minogue was also displeased at the fact that the new judge, Cheryl Cole took her seat next to lead judge, Simon Cowell and has also looked into rumours that Cheryl Cole is actually getting paid more than she is.
Yet, Minogue has denied reports that she is leaving the x-factor competition. She has stated that the producers have told her she is staying and that she has not heard anything different. However a spokesman for the X-Factor show has said that no decisions had been made about who is staying in the competition and that it is all just speculation. Personally, I think it is quite exciting that Robbie Williams might be a judge on the show however I would only think that is mere speculation at the moment. Addititionally, you have to ask yourself what it will do for the credibility of Robbie Williams’ career as the x-factor is exactly the most highly respected event within the music industry. Liam Gallagher from the British band, Oasis has openly said that the x-factor is a sham and puts false hopes in people minds who are considering getting involved with the music industry. ‘It makes people think that getting into the music industry is easy’.

You see, there’s a certain amount of fuzziness to the picture and sound that results from an analog TV signal- even one transmitted over a buried cable- that’s completely eliminated with a digital TV signal.  The result of this technology is a great picture and high quality sound that’s almost as good as what you would get if you had the master copy right there in your home!

Other great features that Comcast includes in all of its programming packages are an interactive on screen program guide, a selection of video on demand options through ON DEMAND, forty channels that feature great music in CD quality sound, all of your local TV channels, and the option of getting a DVR in your home entertainment center!

The music channels will make it so that you don’t have to buy CD’s anymore, and you’ll be able to enjoy your local channels in the same high quality digital format as any national channels that you subscribe to!

The addition of a DVR from Comcast will make it extremely easy to record whatever you want.  This means that you’ll be be able to “time shift” programming from when it comes on to a time that’s convenient for you to watch it!

The features that are common to all of Comcast’s digital cable TV programming packages also happen to be the features that make up its most basic, most economical programming package.  The other programming packages available from Comcast pretty much build on the basic one by adding national cable TV channels until you reach the top of the line package that offers almost three hundred channels for your viewing enjoyment!

These channels include tons of great sports programming, movies, news, music videos, cartoons and kids channels, science fiction, westerns, educational programming, cultural programming, and everything else that you could possibly want to watch!

There are a lot of advantages that come from choosing Comcast Cable TV for your television service provider.A wide variety of television programming package options, superior picture quality, interactive features, and advanced ways of watching TV are just a few of the things that you’ll get no matter which level of service you choose to sign up for!

The variety of programming packages that Comcast Cable Television can provide for you can be seen in the difference between the smallest, most economical programming package and the largest, most grandiose package. The most economical programming package from Comcast Cable Television consists of just the basic features that are included in all of the TV programming packages.

These include all of your local channels, access to an interactive on screen program guide, forty channels of different kinds of music, and access to Comcast’s ON DEMAND. The largest TV programming package contains all of that, plus access to over two hundred and seventy five national channels!  Of course there are also numerous options that fall in between these two extremes.

Comcast’s interactive features start out with its interactive on screen program guide (EPG).This feature will display all of the viewing options that you have to choose from, right on your television screen!  Each and every program is arranged to take up a single cell in a table that’s formed with the channels in one direction and the time slot in another so that you can see what’s on as well as when it’s on.

In addition, you’ll be able to get a lot of different kinds of information about each program through the interactive on screen program guide.  This information includes the type of content the program has (so that you can decide whether or not the program is suitable for your children), when the program was made, who stars in it, and in many cases you’ll also be able to read a short summary of the program.

All of this information is even more helpful when you think about having to decide what to watch with all of the hundreds of channels that are available in Comcast’s larger programming packages!

Another interactive feature that’s included with the on screen program guide is parental control software which can look at the content information for you and make decisions about what to let your kids watch, all according to your specific criteria!

Comcast Cable offers a great new way to watch TV through ON DEMAND.  With ON DEMAND you’ll have access to a huge amount of video entertainment that you can watch whenever you want!

Some of the videos that you’ll find through ON DEMAND, such as recently released movies, are available on a pay per view basis. On the other hand, the majority of the television programming is free to watch whenever you please!

With a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from Comcast, you’ll have even more ability to choose when to watch the programs that you want to watch.  That’s because a DVR can be used to record TV shows directly off of the cable feed so that you can essentially have your own video on demand library!  The fact that it’s all stored on a hard drive that’s built into your digital receiver means that it’s completely accessible for you to get a hold of when you want!

With all of these great options and features, subscribing to Comcast is truly a positive step for your family’s entertainment! Check out the Current Comcast Cable TV Deals.

Dive into The Cinema World

Cinemas have been around for years. No matter what age you are, you can never grow out of visiting your local cinema. With more blockbuster movies hitting our screens, I do feel that new more than ever is the time cinemas should take full advantage.

With current advancements in technology we are seeing people wanting to stay at home much more, with the release of HD and Blu-Ray there is really no reason to keep visiting the cinema. Ok yes it is a good social experience, but for the amount you are paying, you could in fact wait a few more months and buy the Disc and watch it an unlimited amount of times.

Therefore I feel now is the right time for film developers and cinemas to get together and give us great 3D interaction, so it actually feels like we are in the movie. They already give us Dolby surround sound so why not go the whole mile and give us surround vision?

3D movies have been around for a long time, the days where you had to put on your special 3D specs and watch the movie were great, but it did effect the film quality making the image very distorted. There are 2 avenues in which I feel the cinemas should take, 1st and foremost if they are going to hand out glasses let them be digital 3D glasses so that we can get the full quality experience from it.

The second feature and most exciting in my mind, is to make the movie theatre into an actual movie. Why just have a screen at the front? Reflect the projectors all the way around the room? When you look up you will see the sky and when you look down you will see the films ground.

Can you imagine how awesome it would be to watch an action movie like that? It would look as though you are in the movie, so you will feel every action and sound. The cinemas should take note and up their technology before it is too late, the cinema needs to develop itself just like home entertainment has been doing.
